TA-082 Downgrader Released!

Do you believe in miracles? A TA-082 downgrader has been officially released today by a dev named, dark_thug! This downgrader is for use with 2.50 TA-082 PSPs. TA-082 users with 2.6-2.71 can downgrade to 2.50 using the Generic Downgrader. Alright, so here's how it works:

1. Use the DAX generic downgrader to change your ver. to 2.50 if it isnt already.
2. Downloaded the 2.50 TA-082 Check & Dump v1.20 to dump your firmware.
3. Enter your settings in the executable. Here is an example:
http://img344.imageshack.us/img344/1354/ta082dgvp8.png
4. It will generate the downgrader. Copy the folder ?UPDATE? (the folder it makes) to x:/PSP/GAME
5. download eLoader and put it on your PSP. Load it from the photo menu.
6. Choose ?UPDATE? from the eLoader menu. This will begin the downgrader. It will patch your bootstrap to make it a 1.5.
7.Reboot your PSP AFTER it has finished COMPLETELY! You should get a blue screen. Hit O and restore your settings.

Here's the files you will need:
http://www.psp-haxors.com/www.psp-haxors.com/wp-content/uploads/TA-082/TA-082_Downgrader.rar
http://www.psp-haxors.com/forum/downloads.php?action=view&did=258
http://www.psp-haxors.com/forum/downloads.php?action=view&did=256

There has been a reported problem with this downgrader however. According to dark_thug: : SE-C may lock-up while playing some games.
The catch? On 1.50, trying to change settings menu gives a Blue Screen of Death.
This means you can simply not change your Video options, System settings, etc."

As with all things that write to flash, there is a risk of bricking, so USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. QJ, dark_thug, myself, and psp-haxors are not responsible for any bricks!

If all this sounds good to you, try it out and you will hopefully be enjoying a 1.50 or 2.71SE-C PSP!

Looking for Group Interface Tool

A new Looking For Group tool designed to assist players in finding groups for instanced dungeons and quests will now be available. This interface gives players the option to be added to a pool of other players also looking for a group, as a means to expedite the process. In addition, players will also be able to search for additional members in situations where they have a group and are simply looking to find more players. For a complete overview of this new interface, please take a moment and read the information contained on our comprehensive Looking for Group preview.

General

All players will have their talent points reimbursed and will have access to new talents throughout their trees; this includes the 41-point talents. Several new abilities have also been added for all classes.
All pets will now receive a percentage of their master's armor, spell damage, spell resistances, attack power, and stamina.
Low-level spells cast by high-level players will receive smaller bonuses from +healing and +spell damage.
HoTs, DoTs, and channeled spells have been re-balanced to receive a more appropriate (higher) percentage of +spell damage and +healing.
HoTs from different sources will now stack (i.e. multiple druids can cast the Rejuvenation spell on 1 target).
New item property "Resilience" has been introduced. Resilience reduces your chance to be the victim of a critical strike, and reduces the amount of damage critical strikes do to you.
Weapon Skill now does the following:
Weapon skill will no longer reduce the percentage damage lost due to glancing.
The player will gain 0.1% to their critical strike rating per weapon skill against monsters above their level.
When casting a buff on a low level target, the appropriate rank of the buff will automatically be applied.
In PvP, Crowd Control effects will last no longer than 12 seconds instead of the full duration, with a chance of a heartbeat resist.
Players will no longer lose faction when under the influence of "Mind Control" or the Gnomish Mind Control Cap.
Several improvements have been made to the Macintosh client, including support for Multi-Threaded OpenGL on Intel Macs running OS X 10.4.8 or higher.

PvP

Honor System Revamp
Current honor totals have been reset.
Players may display their highest lifetime rank title (accessible from character sheet).
Honor points earned each day may now be spent as a form of currency.
Check the PvP tab of your character sheet to see your honor information.
PvP rewards are no longer unique.
Marks of Honor earned from battlegrounds are no longer turned in for reputation or honor. They are now used in addition to honor points in order to purchase rewards.
Two New Arenas are now available in three different modes.
2v2, 3v3, and 5v5 matches
Players may queue up at Goblin NPC's in Stormwind, Ironforge,
Orgrimmar, Undercity, and Gadgetzan

Druids

The talent "Swiftmend" will now include bonus healing from the talents "Improved Rejuvenation" and "Empowered Rejuvenation".
"Omen of Clarity's" duration has been increased to 30 min.
Hunters

Traps can be set while in combat, but require a 2 second arming time.
"Auto shot" will be automatically enabled if the Hunter steps out of melee range while in combat with target.
1 Agility will now grant 1 Ranged Attack Power.
"Auto shot" is now reset when casting Aimed Shot.
"The Beast Within's" Bonus damage caused has been reduced to 10%, but now also reduces the mana cost of all spells by 20%.
Freezing Traps will now cancel combat when cast.
Mages

"Frost Nova" (Water Elemental Spell) has now been renamed "Freeze".
Shaman

Shaman with the appropriate talent spec are now able to dual-wield.
Self-weapon buffs such as Windfury Weapon can be applied to both main and off-hand weapons.
Rockbiter's weapon functionality has been changed. It is now a damage proc instead of a flat attack power bonus.
Windfury Weapon and Rockbiter Weapon enchantments will only benefit the weapon with the enchantment on it.

Warlocks

The range of "Drain Life" and "Drain Mana" spells have been increased.

Warriors

Rage generation from dealing damage has been normalized.
All Rage awards are averaged with our expected rage per swing (adjusted for weapon speed).

Items

The "Far Sight" effect has changed so that the camera now zooms in to a distant location, rather than instantly showing the distant view. This also affects the items: Ultra-Spectropic Vision Goggles, the Ornate Spyglass, and the Hunter ability "Eagle Eye."
Spells can now require either a totem item or a totem category item to cast a spell. This means that the Enchanting Rods now count as all of the lower level enchanting rods as well, so you only need a single enchanting rod instead of all six. This also means that "Finkle's Skinner" now counts as a Skinning Knife. Several weapons that are picks have been flagged as counting as a Mining pick as well.
Items that give bonuses, such as critical strike percentage, have been modified to adhere to a combat rating system.
All current items will provide the exact same benefit from ratings at level 60 as they provided before the ratings system.
Thrown weapon items no longer stack, but use durability instead. One unit of durability is lost per throw, and these items can be repaired.
The tool tip for the Great Staff of the Guardian now shows the proper increase of 28 to the party spell critical rating.
Items that are useable from player inventory with a cooldown will now update the cooldown in real-time.
Players will no longer be able to sell the "Blue Skeletal Horse" to vendors.
The damage Proc from the item "Misplaced Servo Arm" will no longer break the Rogue ability "Gouge".
The "Skull of Impending Doom" has been changed and will now increase run speed by 60% for 10 seconds, but deals damage equal to 60% of your maximum health and drains 60% of your maximum mana for over 10 seconds.
The Backfire effect on the "Net-O-Matic" will no longer break on damage.

Professions

All of the profession-made items that have been created up to now have been given proper stats based on the current expansion item level progression table.
Most of the items made by Tailoring/Leatherworking/Blacksmithing have had their creation time reduced. Now the cap on time required to make an item in those professions is based on quality and level.
New Max times required.
Level 31+ Green Items at least 8 sec
Level 31+ Blue Items at least 15 sec
Level 31+ Purple Items at least 25 sec
Skill level now determines what items you can disenchant.
Skill 1= Level 1-20
Skill 25= Level 20-25
Skill 50= Level 25-30
Skill 75= Level 30-35
Skill 100= Level 35-40
Skill 125= Level 40-45
Skill 150= Level 45-50
Skill 175= Level 50-55
Skill 200= Level 55-60
Skill 225= Level 60-65
Players will no longer lose an item when attempting to disenchant on a boat when the loading screen appears.

User Interface

Meeting Stone gossip options have been removed from Innkeepers in preparation for the new LFG system.
LFG/LFM UI

3.0-Is it Worth the Hype? Not Quite...

Yesterday when I discovered that the 3.0 manual had went live online, I was quite excited. Once I began to look through it however, I became quite dissapointed. As I began looking through it I noticed no VoIP, no Playstation Store, and a lot of other dissapointing things. I could only hope it would be different when it arrived...

This morning I woke up, and checked Network Update. Thankfully, the update was here! I went to install it, and was dissapointed with the feature list. I continued to install anyways. 100% and it was time to reboot.

Unfortunately, the startup was the same. I was hoping for something cooler, like the PS3 bootup, but you can't get everything you want. I began going through everything. The first new thing was UMD Auto-Start. This was a welcome addition and I immediately set it to off. I went to change my nickname and noticed they had added the PSP buttons onto the keypad in some locations. It was an alright change but nothing special. The last new feature under Settings was an updated About PS3 section. I noticed credit to a company called Sonaptic. I haven't discovered what they do yet, so I well need to investigate.

Next, was the photo menu. Not much new here except a camera icon. This isn't use as the Camera hasn't even arrived stateside yet. Now I have to scroll down just to access my Memory Stick photos. Couldn't they have put the Camera icon under the Memory Stick icon?

Music time. I was curious to see the visualizations. They are a welcome addition, but they need more of them. The few that are there are nice and I enjoy how it remembers your visualization preference. I then went to check Video. Nothing new there.

It was time to check out the game menu. The Game Menu is the highlight of the PSP, so I was hoping for something good. I discovered a new Certificate Utility, but then realized it's no use without a PS3. I hit Information on my Memory Stick icon, and noticed it now tells you if it has MagicGate support.

Finally, it was time for the Network Icon. The first thing in the menu is Online Instruction Manuals. Not necessarily that exciting, but a nice feature to have. The next new feature is Remote Play, but that needs a PS3. Finally, was the ability to set up the PSP to auto download RSS feeds at a certain time. This is a nice feature, and it is quite cool. You set it up, and put your PSP to sleep with the Wifi on. At that time, it will turn the PSP on and go through your Network Connections until it finds one that works. After that it downloads the feeds, based on the settings you selected under the RSS Channel Settings. If only they could implement an Alarm Clock or something with this.

That's it? No Playstation Store? How am I supposed to download PS1 games and PSP demos? Looks like I won't be for a little while. Does Sony not realize there are barely any PS3s out there? Way to mess up what was supposed to be an amazing update. What ever happened to the statement that we wouldn't need a PS3 for PS1 games anyways..?

I do have a theory for this, however. By Sony not giving us all the promised features at once in 3.0 this saves themselves. This way if 3.0 gets hacked, they still have features to offer us to convince us to update. Let's see how this turns out, but as of now I am quite disappointed.

PSP Firmware 3.0 Manual Online!

The PSP Firmware 3.0 manual is now available. Unlike before when it shortly appeared, all the links are now active. Does this mean the update is coming soon?

http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/psp/current/index.html

UMD Auto Start can now be enabled or disabled: http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/psp/current/settings/umdautostart.html

As of now it looks like PS3 is required to download things from Playstation Store:

My Kiosk Experiences: Wii vs PS3

Well, today I decided to go to the store and give a whirl at the two hottest next gen systems, the Wii and the Playstation 3. First stop was Target. They had the PS3 there to play, and I was pumped. They had MotorStorm in and I was all set.

The controller was amazing the first time I picked it up. It just had an awesome feel to it, and the fact that it was familiar was another plus. I picked a vehicle and a course and got ready to go. Loading took a little while, but overall the load times weren't bad. I waiting for the race to start and then I was off. The graphics looked absolutely amazing, with the scenery and the vehicles looking gorgeous. I tried racing first with the analog stick, and it was fairly easy, but I wasn't too good at the game. Half way through I decided to switch and use the tilt sensitivty. This was more enjoyable, but much more sensitive and difficult. I failed miserably at this game.

Next, I decided to try a nice little bike race on MotorStorm. I found this a lot more fun, and also simpler. Overall, the game was pretty good, but isn't too beginner friendly.

I tried to go back to XMB, but couldn't figure out how. The PS Button, did not allow me to. I know what the XMB is like however, based on my PSP experiences, and I love it.

After this, it was off to Gamestop to try the Wii. After my dad handed over his license, the controller was mine. It surprised me how small and light it was. I fired up and the console and saw the menu. It was nice and simple, but I prefer the XMB. I am not too steady with my hands, so navigated the menu was a challenge. I decided to jump right into Excite Truck. The loading times were great and in a matter of 5 seconds or so, I was into the menu. I picked a race track, a vehicle, color, and then it was time to begin. Fast loading times were definately a plus.

And so...the race began. It was nice, simple, and fun. Although, the graphics were not high def, they still were quite nice, and I enjoyed them. I enjoyed all the little powerups and extras added into the game. I played two races and definately enjoyed the experience better than MotorStorm. It was much easier to pick up and play, and much more enjoyable.

After that, I decided to explore the Wii menu. I figured I would create a Mii. Navigating the Mii Creation was difficult and took some time, to get used to pointer and choosing everything. It was neat to make a virtual identity however. There wasn't much to do with the Mii, so I just decided to reture to the main menu. From there, I just checked out the daily message function, by checking out how much the system had been played.

Overall, I enjoyed the Wii more. I would have to try more games, to figure out which one truly is better, but the Wii definately is FUN, and that's what matters. The fact that it is cheap and affordable, is another plus. Today was a great day.

PS3 Firmware Investigation Part 2

This post will be very basic as well. It will just go over the basics of the root level files.

Root Folder Contents
-3 Files(~5413kb)
-2 Folders(~95160kb)

FILES:
dots.txt(1kb)
updater.sce(5411kb)
version.txt(1kb)

FOLDERS:
update(94550kb)
vsh(610kb)

File Basics:
dots.txt - I see absolutely no point for this file. It is simply a text document with three periods in it. Strange and pointless...

updater.sce - The most important file in the root level and the largest. The file begins with the standard SCE. At 0x91 it states ELF. That appears to be the actual binary executable, however I can not definitively figure out where it starts and ends. My guess is 0x548227, as that appears to be the end of the tightly packed encrypted data.

version.txt - This is a file that those of you from the PSP scene should be familiar with. This time around things have changed however. The new version.txt simply states the version of the update and is followed by 0a.

That's all for this time. Next will be the "attempt" at a examination of the root/UPDATE folder.

PS3 Update List

Hey guys. I'm looking for the PS3 update list, so if anyone knows it, PLEASE CONTACT ME.

Here's my original post:
Has anyone managed to find the site that the Ps3 uses to check for Updates. I know the http://fj01.psp.update.playstation.org/update/us/psp-updatelist.txt, but I can not manage to find the Playstation 3 one anywhere. I am guessing they changed the name of the file to something else, but still no luck.

Play B3yond Blog Launched

I have launched a Playstation 3 blog that I will try and maintain. A Wii one will likely be coming(tomorrow?) as well, so check it out: http://playb3yond.blogspot.com

And It's The End...

Unfortunately, over the past few weeks/months, I have lost interest in deving for the PSP. It just doesn't excite me like it use to. Effective indefinitely, all PSP deving projects have stopped. The PSP has had it's triumphs, but also it's tragedies. Just today, I saw a dev get flamed over at QJ, for getting DONATIONS. It is ridiculous how immature people act sometimes. I will continue to use my PSP and visit QJ, but all deving work and research for me, is pretty much finished.

Updates

Hey guys, it's been a little while since I posted. I just wanted to let you guys what is going on. I am still working on Sparks, but been having some difficulties that have caused delays. I haven't been able to look at it too much, as I have been busy with all my school work. Look out for 0.05 in a few weeks, HOPEFULLY.

In other news, not relating to PSP, my friend and I are working on a Red vs Blue Myspace, which will have every episode EVER eventually. We just started it tonight, so it is still quite basic. If you want, please check it out, support it, and add it as a friend: http://www.myspace.com/redvsbluemyspace

Some Updates

1. Sparks version 0.02 has been released. 0.02 remains a private release. I am hoping to have 0.02 be the last PRIVATE release. I am currently working on 0.05 which will be public. You can hopefully expect that in a few weeks.

2. Due to stupid internal errors, I was forced to update my PSP to 2.81 :(

3. I hope to be posting more frequently in the future on here as well, so keep checking back :)

My PSP- Dead and Back To Life

Well, it's been an interesting past 24 hours. I decided to try and flash a TIFF loader as a background to put all the speculation to rest. I flashed the loader for File Assistant thinking I would be able to remove the background. Unfortunately, the PSP would crash right after hitting start at the FA flash screen. I could still run UMDs luckily. However, I managed to fix it with my skills. Using a friend's PSP i accessed my memory stick. I replaced the FA binary with one from FontMod. I had a corrupt registry on my memory stick, so i left that, and flashed it to my PSP. That caused me to get the BSOD on boot, where I could restore the settings. After that all was good :)

First Official Sparks Release-Version 0.01

Now, don't get too excited. While the release is official instead of just a standard build, it isn't for everyone. Unfortunately, it is only available for official testers so the rest of you are out of luck :( Sorry about that. Most of you probably wouldn't enjoy it anyways. Most of the Core gameplay is not there, and it is mainly to test major features.

Also, as most of you know, the project was initially supposed to be completed by TMK, Glynnder, and myself. Unfortunately, there were some probelms, with communication. I decided it was in the best interest of the project, to do work on it alone. As of this day, the project is only by myself. TMK and Glynnder never put any code n it, so it can official be claimed this way.

Finally, I do need someone to do graphics for the game. If you can help please PM me at forums.qj.net.

Hello World!

The greatest feeling came over me yesterday,as I went online to do my daily web surfing. I check PSPupdates as usual and there it was. Hello World for 2.0+! I immediately downloaded it to my PSP and ran it. I must have sat staring at the screen for 20 minutes, just thinking about what the future of this exploit could hold. It is amazing how time and time again the PSP Devs manage to foil Sony. Anyways, hopefully this will lead to something awesome. It will really help me with all my deving stuff.

Sparks Build 0001 Released

Well, build 0001 has been uploaded somewhere for those working on it. Later on in the project, I will hire some beta testers, but for now this is for my devs only. Right now, it is very basic, but the point is the project is being worked on, and the first build is here!

Text Me Version 0.5 Released

Alright, I've been looking through the Macromedia samples and learning flash, so I decided to start a suite called OPSP, which will be released in the upcoming days. In order to test the release, I may be releasing parts of the suite, in not fully finished form, to test and get your thoughts. The first is a basic text reader, based of MM's code, which had code changes, changed to be compatible with psp, resized and had some graphic changes. Please post your thoughts, it's nothing special, just a one file text reader for now, but expect the final version in OPSP to be changed. Please report any bugs or suggestions, so I can fix them or include any suggestions, in the OPSP release.

You can download and discuss over at QJ: http://forums.qj.net/f-psp-flash-discussions-releases-267/t-release-text-me-05-67323.html#post981819

Please Welcome My Next Partner for the Project

TheMarioKarters has also been accepted as a part of this project as a Lua Dev. He is having technical difficulties with his account, which is why I posted this. TMK has worked on the popluar Sonic Battle Arena. Currently, TMK is active in the PSP and DS Lua scenes.

Hey All!

Hey, I'm Glynnder, many of you will know me from either PSPUpdates or 7ech.
I will be working with TO on the game, with graphics and most probably some coding.
It promises to be a super game and we will keep you updated!
~Glynnder

Sparks Announced

I would like to take this oppurtunity to announce that I have begun work on a new Lua game called Sparks. Right now, I have just begun, and I dont want to reveal too many details. I will describe that the game is a sidescroller, but there is a creative twist in there. For that surprise, I wont give it away. Anyways, a release is still quite a ways off, especially because it has been a while since I even touched Lua, so I need to get back into things. If you would like to assist, feel free to PM me at QJ or email me pspfrenzy at gmail dot com. I am looking for someone to help with graphics and sound.

More updates will come in the future, this is simply just to let you know what I am working on.

Breaking News: LibTiif Vulnerability Crashes 2.71/2.80

This was not by me, but NOPX86, but it is still potentially great news so I am posting it:

Hey guys, iv been messing around with libtiff for a couple of weeks now
and I found something interesting, Im still doing debugging on it and
whatnot, but it crash's the psp and most image viewers, it may be the
begging of homebrew on 2.71 and 2.80 it may not, im not going to release
the source for it just yet, probably in a couple of days once i do
proper debugging to release a full disclosure. i will however post a
link to the image, iv made a small tiff reader program that does the
most ****tiest error checking you have ever seen but i will print a
quick backtrace

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
0xb7eae46b in TIFFFindFieldInfo () from /usr/lib/libtiff.so.3
(gdb) bt
#0 0xb7eae46b in TIFFFindFieldInfo () from /usr/lib/libtiff.so.3

#4 0xb7eafd80 in TIFFReadDirectory () from /usr/lib/libtiff.so.3
#5 0x04004000 in ?? ()
#6 0x04004000 in ?? ()

the 0x4004000 was put in by me, iv noticed it hasnt actually overwritten
the instruction pointer and crashed at that address per say, but im sure
i could maybe get something working, if not I then with help this may
become something. Im asking for volunteers, I would prefer someone from
the hitmen or ps2dev crew or SonyXTeam to help, I have recently been
banned from Toc2rta for not releasing any information and whatnot, I
would however like to come back if at all possible and there are no hard
feelings whatsoever. If anyone would like to help or is even the slight
bit interested then get up with me on yahoo my instant messenger name is
hymn_of_a_needle_freak. I am going to jump ahead of myself at the moment
and go ahead and take some inspiration for the old 2.0 exploit and do my
own variation of the framebuffer png(credit goes to skylark on the idea
and niacin for dumping the data on the original version). Im going to go
ahead and work on setting the rest of it up before i concentrate on more
work with the main part of this. Get up with me if your interested.

greetings to the whole psp homebrew team, mainly ps2dev and
sonyXteam(coldbird and the rest of the gang on their irc server) for
taking the time to listen, also groepaz and skylark for putting up with
my hours of retardedness and questions, harleyg and wakawooki for 2.80
testing(your right, the modchip is the **** ) . I would also like to
thank LC for donating me a psp. I dont know to much about the psp at the
moment as i only have 2.71 so if anyone has pointers then please feel
free to share.

thank you

My Test With Windows Live Writer

Alright, I am writing this post right now on the Windows Live Writer beta. The software is alright. After performing the initial setup, you will have to configure some settings. The software is mostly designed for Windows Live Spaces, so you will likely come across some errors with other sites(I came across an appearence error with blogger). Until these improves, I will likely not post to my blog with it, as it is easier to just use blogger's own editor.

Edit: Actually, once I tried to post that it failed due to an authentication error. This software is now uninstalled and I am just going to post using blogger's website. Try harder next time Micro$ux.

Microsoft's XNA will give me a new way to develop

Well, Microsoft recently accounced a free version of XNA to develop games for both Windows XP and XBOX 360. On August 30th this will be available for a free beta download for developing xbox games. I will probably look into this and start deving some games, so be on the lookout. Feel free to post ideas in the comments section.

Playstation Portable Firmware 2.80 Released!

Sony is at it again, with their promised 2.80 update coming today. They said RSS Video would be featured, and it is sort of... Here is the full list of features:

[Network]

* In [RSS Channel], the download function for animation contents and image contents is now supported.
* In [Location Free Player], it is now possible to login via wireless LAN access point.

* The details about Location Free Base Station can be found at: http://www.sony.co.jp/locationfree/psp/

[Music]

* AAC files in ".3gp" extension can now be played.

[Misc]

* Supporting saving to "MUSIC", "PICTURE" and "VIDEO" folders in "Memory Stick Duo".

---

If you have a firmware version 2.6 or lower I do not recommend updating. 2.7/2.71 it is up to you. I updated my 2.71 to continue my research.

Now about the RSS video. It should be noted that RSS video can NOT be streamed. The RSS will simply retrieve the list of videos and allow you to download them. I feel that was a mistake by Sony, and with homebrew apps that can stream RSS Videos, we all know it is possible.

I Shall Dev No More

As of this morning, I officially quit as a developer. I will still be around PSP boards and stuff to help out, but dont expect any new projects from me. It amazes me at how far some haters can go, and now it has pushed me over the edge. Thanks to everyone who appreciates what I have done, but to all the haters, you have led me to quit.

Project Brew Announced

As most of you know, the Sony official browser is decent, but its not that great. You guys probably also know that there is not really a good browser for 1.50 either, making all browsers be crappy. Thats why I plan to change all that with Project BREW. BREW stands for Browser Rendered Enjoyable Web. This will actually have two parts a basic version(made in LUA, and yes it is possible) and the ultimate version(made with the pspsdk, if it actually wants to set up). This project presumably will take a long time, but it will be well worth it. Post your thoughts here. Also check out the Development Team thread, and please if you have knowledge sign up, so you can help out.

Development Team

I want to get a development team started because of the bigger projects I am starting to do(Tux Rampage, FontHack, BREW). For now, I think that we would need 3 devs(Im one), preferably one of the other two should be good at lua, and the other one good at the pspsdk, a graphics person, and a music person. Please discuss this idea in the forums and let me know if you would like to be a part of the team.

Tux Rampage Roadmap Released

I have prepared and created a roadmap of plans for each build and release dates for each build from April to June. You can find a link to it in the thread over at QJ Forums(Link to thread in my Tux Rampage Announced news article)

Forums Up

I have set up some forums, so please check them out and help it grow into a nice community. Right now it will be boring with so few people, but try and promote it and get more users. Until then check them out right here

Tux Rampage Announced!

I have now announced my newest project, Tux Rampage, which is a sidescrolling shooter featuring Tux, the Linux Penguin. For more info see the announcement thread here

Calling All Devs

Right now this project seems to have hit a roadblock. We would however like some more devs to help look into this. If you have good technical knowledge of the PSP or a certain aspect of the PSP, please contact me. It would be really cool to get an exploit that the whole community is part of. You can contact me at pspfrenzy@gmail.com

Slow Times

I would like to appologize to everyone for the slow times, I have just been really busy. The project is not dead however, we are still working on it. Please just be patient and hang in there with us.

New Firmware Coming Very Soon!? Possibly..

Im sure some of you remember the prestaged update site from before 2.00. It had the prereday page for the new firmware, a day before the firmware was released. The page then got password protected. Anyways, after a firmware is released the page has the password protection remove. I just tried to go to it, and guess what...it is password protected again. Here's a link:

http://stage-us.playstation.com/psp.aspx?id=SoftwareUpdate

Update 1: Taken from psp boards:

[Quote]

sarah spent (i'm guessing a lot) some time on it and she found out that the username is pspbeta01 but the password is randomly generated.

credit of coarse goes to SarahPSPIRCOP. thanks Sarah....maybe someone else continue your work and find out the random password...(like the could find a pattern or something.

True Type Fonts Now

Freeplay and Skylark have been hard at work, and have released a converter to turn standard TrueType Fonts(TTF) to a PSP compatible pgf file. You can download the windows binary right here.
Thanks to them, you now have access to thousands of fonts. Next step, is to get to work on finding an actual exploit..but for now, enjoy your customized PSP!

Amazing Support

Wow! Over 4000 hits today...that is truly amazing..i never believed my blog would get that many hits, and it is truly amazing to see such support from the community, so thanks a lot guys!

Anyways, recently i have seen a lot of people thanking me and giving me credit for this. It is appreciated, but please remember to thank FreePlay and Skylark as well. Without them, none of this would have been possible.

Finally, PSPUpdates has made a great tutorial and package for this so check it out!

WTF

Ya somehow i got banned from pspu for no reason..so unless they make it up to me somehow, then i do NOT give pspupdates the right to post ANY news about this exploit! I am so pissed right now!!!

Edit: I have been unbanned

Researching

Right now we are into the font research stage, and just trying to see what they are made of and how they can be edited. This means that it may be a while, before any new news is posted. Anyways, for the good part, there seems to be no encryption, protection, or checksum, meaning it can be freely edited!

Guide Up

I have quickly made a detailed guide on how to run fonts off the memory stick and put it on my filefront. Let me know of any errors. BTW, after doing so there may be strange glitches, bugs, or crashes. Please report them to me to PSPFrenzy@gmail.com, and i will then submit it to Skylark and Freeplay as well.

Tuesday, March 14, 2006

w00t

I just used the fixupdreg2 tool and edited my registry. I managed to change my nickname, swap buttons, and i am now running fonts of my memory stick. This is a breakthrough, so screw all the haters that said it wouldn't be possible!

Documentation

Skylark has been very helpful through all of this, and has put together some documentation of what is known and what is going on so far. This can be seen here: http://mirror.toc2rta.com/index.php/PspReg

A Note to All Fakers

I am getting so fed up with the PSP scene and all the fakers, flamers, and attention whores. The psp scene is becomming a mess with all these people and their downgraders and crap. 99% of these people dont know the first thing about hacking or anything. They just release a crappy faked video instead of files. Notice whenever myself or Freeplay has discovered something we released the files. All I can say is that its pretty rough being a dev right now in this crappy scene

PSP Registry Parser

Freeplay sent this information to me to help with the exploit:

PSP Registry Parser by Skylark (with minimal help from FreePlay :-P)
--------------------------------------------------------------------

ABOUT
-----

This is a command-line program that you can use to view the contents of your SYSTEM.DREG/SYSTEM.IREG files, which are the PSP's system registry. These files contain all sorts of information about system settings, network connection setup, etc.

SETUP
-----

Installation is simple; just copy all of the files in this ZIP file to a folder somewhere on your computer. It doesn't matter where, so long as you copy all of them.

To set the program up, you'll need to use something like FileAssistant to copy the two files from flash1:/REGISTRY into the same folder as this program. FileAssistant v0.4 works on any PSP up to v2.60, and you can get that from http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/fileasistant.shtml .

To copy flash1 using that program, press L until "Disk" is highlighted at the bottom, then press R, then pick Flash 1, then press O. Then Press L until "Copy" is highlighted, then press [] to highlight the SYSTEM.DREG and SYSTEM.IREG files, then press R to copy them to the MS.

USING
-----

There are two main ways of running the program:

1. Display-only mode. Open up a command prompt, change over to the folder that has the programs in it, and just type "parsedreg". It should spit out an XML-formatted file to the console.

2. File output mode. Performed exactly as #1, but you instead type "parsedreg > insert_a_filename_here.xm l". It'll save the file to whatever name you put into 'insert_a_filename_here'.

There's not really much to do with this yet, but we obsessed over it for a few days on Fanjita's IRC channel

HELP!
-----

If you have any questions about this, I'm sure one of us will be online. Go to www.fanjita.org and click "Live Chat", or use your favorite IRC client to connect to irc.toc2rta.com , channel #fanjita. You can also e-mail FreePlay at FreePlayPSP@gmail.com . He's a bit addicted to the IRC channel :P

NOTES
-----

There's something in the "pspreghtmlizer" folder that can turn the XML output into a nicely-formatted web page. Check it out.

The "src" folder contains the source code, for those of you on who are on Linux or who just want to modify the program.

Update: Added the file to my FileFront

Looping BSOD

I have managed to get a strange looping blue screen effect when modifying a set of bytes. After doing this the blue screen will appear, attempt to repair, and then the blue screen reappears. This effect continues until the PSP is rebooted. I am hoping we can insert code in that loop. I have added a guide to my FileFront on how to achieve this.

Download Section Up

I have a Filefront where you can download any important files i have made. Some of the files are old. The only two new ones are just dumps. You can access my files Here

Update: For some reason directly linking to my FileFront is not working. I am looking into this.

Update 2: Bug fixed. Link should now work.

Details About Possible Font Exploit

I have decided to post here some details about the font exploit. I was looking through the flash1 that i had dumped using the BrownAle loader. I discovered the system.dreg and decided to look at it in a hex editor. I discovered that it had a path to load the fonts from flash0. I quickly dumped the fonts to my memory stick. I then changed the path to ms0:/fontmod where the newly placed fonts were. I used FileAssistant and quickly changed it. I got to browse for a little and then got corrupt settings. What I am going to attempt to do, is make a font exploit from this similar to the XBOX font exploit. I am currently researching variables and things trying to figure out what is corrupting the Flash1. Keep checking back for more details!
